Assam is the gateway to the North-East India located between 90^o-96^o East Longitude and 24^o-28^o North Latitude. Located south of the eastern Himalayas. Assam comprises the Brahmaputra River and the Barak Valleys. Assam currently is almost equivalent to the size of Ireland or Austria. Assam is perhaps known to the world for two things : Tea and One Horned Rhinocerous. Assam is also known for Petroleum Resources, Assam Silk and also for its rich biodiversity. A land of high rainfall, Assam is endowed with lush greenery and the mighty river Brahmaputra, whose tributaries and oxbow lakes provides the region with a unique hydro-gemorphic and aesthetic environment.
